"I was too scared to quit". Among the many jewels dropped by super human/super ninja Joey K, as he honors SQR Podcast with one of our most fascinating stories yet. Listen as this only child who grew up a little shy, sheltered and even spoiled to parents who divorced at age 6. Spending time between mom and dad, Joey was able to enjoy all the fun and freedom from dad, however mom kept him in line with discipline, living clean and eating clean with a strong vegetarian diet. A transient early childhood included a move to Boston as mom remarried. Influenced by his grandmother in putting others first, lead to him making a decision to move back to live with his father and step mother in New Jersey. A ready-made household with a 10-year-old brother and 13-year-old sister; total chaos. A skinny kid with crappy grades and no athletic capabilities graduated high school, and with a seed planted by his uncle John, inspired him to join the navy; seal team that is; as the team work was appealing to him. Mom resisted. ("Give us your heart, we will take care of your body.") The mantra that fueled Joey K through the rigorous training to be a part of this elite BUDS team. Enjoy as joey shares his intimate experiences, wins and failures through the entire process of hell week and how it has allowed him to tackle all obstacle courses-physically and mentally-in life. Excerpts that could be applied to our life's journey, Joey shares of his transition back to civilian life. Prodigy, one half of the hip hop duo Mobb Deep passed away June 20, 2017. A rapper ahead of his time with unforgettable vocals and delivery. Prodigy and Havoc gave us the quintessential NYC sound, complimented by a clear and concise ability to tell their story about growing up In Queens Bridge (QB). Prodigy battled sickle cell since birth and did not allow this disease to prevent him from dominating the hip hop game and being an advocate for other suffers. "P" as he was commonly known to answer to; left an indelible mark on our culture and will truly be missed. R.I.P @prodigymobbdeep.

Wise beyond his years, MVP eloquently shares his journey from birth to present. Growing up in a single parent household in Jersey City NJ, mom instilled a strong work ethic and brutal honesty, which he appreciates to this day. Enjoy this riveting and concise journey through the life of F.E.D.S. founder and owner Antoine Clark. Antoine held nothing as he shares of growing up in a single parent home where mom played the role of dad, best friend and a strong disciplinarian. Babysitting his brother, Antoine passionately embraced his big brother role and took his brother wherever he went and do whatever he did. A very focused and driven young man, Antoine was never distracted by the drug infested surroundings he grew up in. Women were his distraction, this led him to becoming a dad while in high school and welcomed the birth of his daughter. Antoine speaks eloquently of that time and the emotions felt by both him and his girlfriend as they both were still in high school and now parents. This experience transformed him into a man, as he did not want to neglect his role nor his daughter unlike his experience with his dad neglecting him. Unable to complete high school due to his responsibility, Antoine goes right to work to provide for his family. Inspired by Larry Flint, Antoine shares about the birth F.E.D.S. The name which came to him as he wrapped up a meeting in the village (NYC) at a restaurant called FEZ. F.E.D.S. magazine became the bible of the streets. Overcoming all the issues from publishing to distribution Antoine did it so he could tell the story of gangsters like Alpo, Rich Porter, Pistol Pete and Santra Rucker to name a few. Great content and connecting with the right people allowed Antoine Clark to tell the story of the street, not to glorify it but to deter others from making the same mistakes.

Comedian, actor, writer Omar Thompson honored SQR Podcast with an honest and revealing walk through his life. Growing up in a household as the only child to 2 drug addicted parents, Omar eloquently shares of his childhood in Baltimore and being isolated by his cousins. Developing a creative mind set as he played with his toys and his imagination, kept him away from the drugs and distractions he was surrounded by. Listen as he shares the constant ass kicking, he got from a girl in the neighborhood "Fists" who probably liked him. Little did he know she was making him stronger for his transition to Harlem NYC. A move that greeted him by being jumped by a group of kids as he played outside. Living with Mom and going to high school in the 90's, enjoy Omar’s colorful recall of that period and the influences of the gangs. Bloods and Crips, he had to make a choice. The shooting and death of a close friend was the warning he needed to lay low for the summer before college as he refused to be a statistic. The transition to college and exposure led him find his true talent, from a poet with a well-received poem to wanting to be the 'Blackest" guy on campus, a search that led him to a book titled "Nigger", the biography of activist & black comedian Dick Gregory.
Omar leaves nothing out as he details his journeys into comedy full time, being homeless the funnier he got and the people who were instrumental in his survival through those seasons. Enjoy as he recaps his biggest break, Madison Square Garden Hot 97 April's Fools Day Comedy show and the circumstances which led to an initial 1 min stage time to over 5 min with double standing ovations. Now a Husband, father and home owner in a new town, Omar has so such material to weave into his style as he is more than funny, he is a comedian who has something to say. World renowned reggae artist Red Fox (The original Red Fox) blessed SQR Podcast with one of our most honest and riveting podcasts yet. Enjoy this detailed journey through the life of Red Fox. Growing up with his grand parents in the country, as mom migrated to the United States and dad passing away, allowed Red Fox to develop a character of survival as he navigated childhood. Subjected to a lot of bullying due his complexion and his freckles, Red formed an alliance with the only other person in the neighborhood who looked similar, his friend Gibbs. As both Red and Gibbs battled each other for the title of best lyricist, little did he know that was the beginning his talent as a reggae artist. Going to high school in Spanish Town, Red Fox felt at home in the city. Still working on his Talent battling everyone and anyone who would step up, led to him meet “Punk Busta”, a local DJ that slaughtered him in a battle. “Punk Busta” gave him the name Red Fox. After performing at his high school BBQ and seeing the response of the audience Red Fox was now a super star on campus.
Migrating to the U.S. after high school, Red Fox shares his 1st experience traveling, his expectations and landing in Brooklyn. On a faithful ride in the elevator to his apt, he overheard his neighbor playing some reggae music and performing live, this grabbed Red’s attention, he decided to stop on their floor and participate. They allowed him to get on the mic and he killed it. This chance meeting propelled him into the circles to be recognized and grow. Consistently performing and developing his talent allowed Red Fox to garner bigger stages with acts like Shabba Ranks and Super Cat, where he shined and often out performed the headliners.
Red Fox speaks of his history with his brother from another mother, reggae artist Shaggy and the role he played in getting Shaggy the exposure he needed.
